Installation Instructions:

Requirements: Windows SharePoint Services 2.0 or SharePoint Portal Server 2003.

Download the Zip File (contains the .cab file and the ReleaseNotes.txt and the Style Sheet File)

Unzip the .zip File, Read carefully the releasenotes.txt

Install the .cab file with the following command:

stsadm.exe -o  Start a command prompt session, and execute the following command:

stsadm -o addwppack -filename <CAB_FILE_NAME> -url <TARGET_URL> -globalinstall -force

Where:
- <CAB_FILE_NAME> : The name and full path to the cab file (Acar.cab)
- <TARGET_URL> : The URL of the server (http://<Server Name>)
- The style sheet file provided in the solution must be deployed at an appropriate location on the server, and included in the web page that displays the web part.
- The style sheet file will automatically picked up if it is deployed in the location that corresponds to the virtual path "\_layouts\1033\styles"

The web part now has a demo mode that will allow only a limited set of responses from the user.

Creating a Custom List in SharePoint

Customize the List you created

Add two new colums, exactly as "Question" and "Responses". Case Sensitive.

Don't delete the first Column "Title", this is the default!

Change Permission for the List (only if you want to accept anonymous votes)

Click on Change anonymous access: Activate the Edit Items


 

Also Anonymous users can now vote with this WebPart. They do not need to have an account:
You can change this by the security settings of the List in SharePoint:

You don't need to add Questions and Responses into the List you created.

This will be automatically done by the WepPart.

Adding the WebPart to your WebSite

After you have registered and installed the WebPart with stsadm.exe and also have created the PollList

You can add the PollWebPart with drag and drop to any WebSite Page under SharePoint

Click on Modify SharePage and drag and drop the PollWebPart to the page.

Click on Modify this WebPart: The PollWebPart Property Pane will open:

Enter the Poll Question (under Poll Properties)
Enter the Poll Responses

Enter the Poll List Name: The Exact Name of the List, you created before

Click OK or Apply

Refresh the WebPage. The WebPart is running

The very first time you vote, you must authenticate yourself. Than anonymous votes can be used.
